There has been rather a large shift in the wedding world in the last year, with an enormous increase in shorter days and more initimate weddings being chosen. Many more are opting for mid/late-afternoon ceremonies, marquee weddings on private land and boutique hotels compared to big venues. I guess it's the fallout from Covid and the cost of living crisis, or perhaps just a change in mindset and priorities. Having been in the industry almost 11 years, it is the biggest shift I've ever seen but I am totally here for it. Loving the shorter, more intimate days as much as the big celebrations 🥳

** It's Like Rain **
This was a tricky one as there hasn't been too much rain at my weddings over the last year or two, other than the odd drizzle. This one, however, poured almost all day with only very brief respites. Waterproof covers were firmly on my cameras though so I was good to go and despite the heavens opening halfway through the evening couple shoot, this gorgeous couple did not mind a bit #adventweddingchallnge2023

Be it a beautiful religious ceremony, a lovely civil ceremony, a tailor-made celebrant ceremony, or an intimate hand-fasting, the ceremony will always be the best moment of the day for the couple. That said, it will also be one of the hardest parts to fully remember without photo and/or film to look back on - so never skimp on coverage for this. ** Candid magic ** So I've skipped a few days of the #adventweddingchallenge2023 but I'm back.

Sometimes wedding moments are fleeting and brilliant, mad and silly, charming and funny. The blink and you miss it kind of ones that you would never remember the next day if they weren't caught on camera. Much like these antics which I love. ** Break the mould **
Day 4 of the #adventweddingchallenge2023 and although this is one that I associate shot for @laurarhianphoto there isn't one more fitting for this title. From doing her own hair and make-up, to embroidering her own wedding dress and making her own evening dress, to making the grooms' tie and napkins, to picking wildflowers for decorations, it was a day completely their own - limited in tradition and simply a small family affair full of love and grace.

Flipping love a bit of confetti - whether it be dried rose petals or biodegradable paper, it is a tradition that can't be beaten. Sadly when I got married our venue didn't allow confetti, so anyone that gets the chance - go for it, and then some 🙌

10 frames from B & D's fantastic wedding day filled with love, joy, and tons of unique touches. This wedding was all about the couple sharing what they truly love with the people they love.

From the moment I arrived, I could sense the excitement in the air. The ladies were eagerly getting ready in their lobster pyjamas, while the bridal dress from @davidsbridaluk had a beautiful flash of pink, perfectly reflecting her vibrant personality. It was clear that this was going to be a day full of fun surprises.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the brilliant celebrant @phoebesmithceremonies who captured the essence of the couple's love story in a heartfelt, personal, and genuine way. To add an extra touch of uniqueness, the couple had a ceremonial cocktail mixing - how cool is that!

The reception was full of nods to musicals in the decor, reflecting the couple's shared love for music and theatre. The speeches were one of a kind, with a special adaptation of a song from Hamilton turned into a sung speech by the bride's sister. It was a moment of pure delight and entertainment for everyone present and there was barely a dry eye by the end of it.

The venue, @thereidrooms provided a lovely backdrop for the day and the food was absolutely mouthwatering, with paella from @paellafella stealing the show. The couple decided to have a bouncy castle for their guests to enjoy, which was the perfect way to let loose and embrace everyone's inner child!

Overall, this beautiful and fun wedding day was a perfect reflection of the couple's personalities and love for each other. It was an honor to be a part of their special day!

10 frames from D & A's incredible day, held on the beautiful island of Anglesey. The couple had chosen to have a marquee reception in a family garden. The marquee looked out onto stunning views of Snowdonia, adding a breathtaking backdrop. As the evening progressed and the sun set, the marquee came alive with twinkling lights.

What made this event truly special was the perfect balance between the grandeur of the occasion and the intimate atmosphere created by the couple. There was a strong focus on family and friends, and D & A wanted to ensure that their loved ones felt embraced and included throughout the entire celebration. They were especially keen on making it a child-centered event, ensuring that the little ones had a fun and memorable experience too, including a bouncy castle, ball pit, ping pong and Shaun the Sheep space hoppers (these should be compulsory at EVERY child friendly wedding).

What a breathtaking day at the picturesque Plas Nanteos Mansion in Mid-Wales. It was an emotional experience filled with love, joy and SO MANY happy tears.

When you get married during the pandemic in Germany and want a photoshoot whilst holidaying in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

True story - I practiced my German before this shoot as I lived in Germany for a while after university, but it quickly became apparent that their English was far superior to my very rusty German so I chickened out. I am so glad that my daughter's school introduces modern languages at primary school age for this exact reason.

Aside from the wedding 'events', most couples don't get much opportunity to be with each other and breathe everything in. I like to think that couple photos gives a little time to feel fully grounded and absorb the moment, because it's your excuse to have a little laugh and joke, hold hands, look into each other's eyes, and be, without all your wedding guests present (just a person with a camera running back and forth saying 'ooh that's good light' and 'that's a lovely looking wall/door/tree/arch').

10 frames from A & D's wonderful day. The marquee by @countymarqueesltd was simply beautiful – filled with white flowers and green foliage by @hilarysfloraldesign that perfectly complimented the hot summer day. Welly wanging, throw the horseshow, and other games kept the guests entertained and laughing away.
One of my favorite parts of the day was when the sun started to set and the festoon lights came on. They added the perfect touch of magic to the already enchanting atmosphere, and really set the tone for the rest of the evening.

But above all, it was the couple that stole the show. They were so clearly in love and happy to be surrounded by their family and friends. As a documentary wedding photographer, I love capturing these authentic moments and telling the story of the day through my pictures.

Overall, this wedding was a joy to photograph and a true celebration of love. I'm grateful to have been a part of it and to have captured such beautiful memories for the happy couple to cherish for years to come. Can't wait to edit the full gallery!

This gorgeous couple love the National Trust so much, particularly @ntdyffryngardens that they arranged to have their pre-wedding shoot there, and boy did the place not disappoint. Although I’ve been there many times myself with family, I got to see it in a whole new light being there for work (if you can call chatting and giggling for an hour work).

Whoever would have thought that getting married on a stage in a theatre would be so flipping amazing. Well, it was. And then some. It was the first wedding held at this Cardiff theatre and I expect there will be many more considering the incredible job they did of stage design. Ten frames from H & A's gorgeous day in Worcestershire. After dreadful weather reports we expected horrendous downpours, but the weather gods were on our side and delivered dry and beautifully stormy skies!! Huge kudos to the planner at @grafton.manor for what has got to be one of the most organised days I have ever shot. The tables were all set-up even before the ceremony - nothing was running behind, so the day went without a hitch.

Wedding season starts to come into full swing this month, just in time for brighter milder weather. One thing that stood out most at this wedding was that almost everything was handmade and sustainable. Even the grooms tie was hand-stitched, and the bride's dress was self-embroidered. All the guests chipped in with setting the tables after the ceremony and the day was super intimate. It poured repeatedly, but it was so joyous regardless.

A few years ago this wedding was, but this is the shot that comes to mind with this caption. When you shoot lots of weddings you start to realise how much guests absorb the couple's moods. If the couple are having the best time ever then guaranteed the guests will be too, and this little phenomenon is most noticeably seen on the dancefloor. When the bride and groom are on it, the guests will be too. If the bride and groom are doing the chat rounds, you can pretty much guarantee the dancefloor will go dead quick and the party vibes will grind to a halt. Moral of the story - HAVE FUN AND DANCE!! 😁

My gosh do I love confetti. The more the better. Got confetti canons - yes, please.

We didn't get to have confetti at our wedding as our venue, gorgeous as it was, was pretty strict on that sort of thing, and it didn't even occur to me to use an alternative as it was before I started working in the wedding industry. Man did we miss out. Instead I live my confetti dreams through others.

I’m definitely one that prefers to be behind the camera than in front, but this is me, being a bit ninja-like…on a food break at a wedding. Here are some things you might not know -

I love coffee but can only drink decaf as I’m so sensitive to caffeine that even one cup gives me the shakes.

I have a three year old who is currently going through a bit of a threenager stage including many a ‘I don’t want x’
Throws x on the car floor whilst in the car seat
‘I want x, I WANT X’
I have learned I am a much more patient person than I thought…

I studied law at uni, but soon realised my passions were creative and became obsessed with cameras by the end of university. I love taking photos for people, including family photography @cradle_and_cub

I like upcycling furniture and learning bits of diy. I have big plans for our new house, but I’m pretty sure the thought of me brandishing a sander terrifies my husband.

I majorly miss going on ‘food holidays’ and have to watch Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix to satisfy that urge. If you don’t go on holiday for the food, then what is the holiday for?! The best food holidays I’ve been on were Nova Scotia (we literally were led by the Food & Drink Guide of Nova Scotia all the way round), Bruges, and New England (pancakes and BBQ) 😋I’ve visited the States a total of six different times, but have never been to Australasia.

I struggle with the idea of rewatching most action & superhero movies, yet can weirdly rewatch Limitless and Double Jeopardy over and over, and never get bored.

I’ve danced salsa since I was 13 years old, when I was allowed to join an adult class. I had a huge crush on Ricky Martin, so that was the obvious next step.

I shot my first wedding just shy of 9.5 years ago, and am still obsessed.
